13.8.2020: Ilmastotoimintaa syksyllä – Ende Gelände! Climate Action in the Autumn – Ende Gelände!

(in English below)

Ende Gelände on massamuotoiseen suoraan toimintaan perustuva liike ilmasto-oikeudenmukaisuuden puolesta ja kapitalismia vastaan. Liike on järjestänyt vuodesta 2015 alkaen lukuisia aktioita Euroopassa. Viime vuonna Ende Gelände Finland järjesti yhteismatkan Helsingistä Saksaan Reininmaalle tapahtumaan, jossa pysäytettiin hetkellisesti RWE-yhtiön hiilikaivosten toiminta. Seuraava iso aktio järjestetään syyskuussa 2020, ja Ende Gelände Finland järjestää taas tapahtumaan yhteiskuljetuksen.

Infotapahtumassa käydään läpin Ende Geländen taustoja ja toimintaa ja kerrotaan tämän syksyn tulevista tapahtumista.
Tapahtuma alkaa torstaina 13.8. klo 18 Lymyssä (Pengerkatu 6, Helsinki) esitelmällä, jonka jälkeen on mahdollisuus kysymyksille ja keskustelulle.

Järjestää Ende Gelände Finland

Ende Gelände is a movement based on mass direct action struggling for climate justice and against capitalism. Since 2015 the movement has organised numerous actions in Europe. Last year Ende Gelände Finland organised a common transportation from Helsinki to Rheinland, Germany, to an event where the activity of coal mines of the RWE company was blocked temporarily. The next big action will be organised in September 2020, and Ende Gelände is again organising a common transportation to the event.

The information event will cover the background and actions of Ende Gelände and tell about the upcoming events of this autumn. The event will start on Thursday 13.8. at 6 pm in Lymy (Pengerkatu 6, Helsinki) with a presentation and questions and discussion afterwards.

Organized by Ende Gelände Finland

Lymy Aperitivo 13: Varjokirjamessut / Shadow Bookfair

After a little break from hosting public talks, Lymy continues its series of monthly Aperitivo nights on Friday July 17th 2020. We gather once a month on a Friday night to meet each other and enjoy some drinks and interesting conversation. Start your weekend with us at Lymy! Cash is queen. ♥

In last winter’s round of Aperitivos we focused on collectively-run spaces in or around Kallio and had as our guests Töölön Pyörä, Loukko, Mustan kanin kolo and QUERQ ry.

For July’s summer special we’ll be breaking off a bit from this series to hear from the organizers of this year’s Varjokirjamessut – a radical bookfair going into its 11th year. However, it’s not too much of a detour on our Spaces series as the Shadow Bookfair is resident to Pasila’s Rauhanasema, which is a long-standing base for grassroots organizing in its own right. Varjokirjamessut is held this year on October 23-25.

The evening’s program starts with a very short introduction by us (starting at 19.00), continues with a 30-50 minute presentation from our guests and ends in a little discussion. After the program, the evening continues with hanging out in a more informal setting till around 21.

You are warmly welcome to the thirteenth Lymy Aperitivo to hear more from and about Varjokirjamessut and spend a wonderful evening together!

Lymy Aperitivo 12: Töölön Pyörä (Feb 28)

Lymy continues its series of monthly Aperitivo nights. We gather once a month to meet each other and enjoy some drinks and interesting conversation. Start your weekend with us at Lymy! Cash is queen. ♥

In this winter’s round of Aperitivos we will be focusing on spaces. Our fourth Aperitivo in the series is on Friday February 28th with the worker owned co-op bikeshop Töölön Pyörä. The co-op celebrated it’s fourth birthday last fall and is only gaining momentum. The shop offers bike maintenance, a curated selection of bicycle components and custom bike builds – not to mention expert advice on all topics cycling related. It has been described as both the best and the friendliest bike shop in Helsinki.

The topics we will be touching on include the politics and practicalities of running a co-op and the experience of “working for yourself”. How is a bike shop a political space? Or is it – even one that is worker owned? We will also explore the question of “why cycling?” and what is the vision of cycling the members of Töölön Pyörä want to promote.

The evening will consist of a short introduction by us (starting at 19) followed by a discussion with our guests. The evening continues with hanging out in a more informal setting till around 21.

You are warmly welcome to the twelth Lymy Aperitivo to hear more from and about Töölön Pyörä and spend a wonderful evening together!

Aperitivo 11 with Loukko on Jan 10

Lymy continues its series of monthly Aperitivo nights. We gather once a month to meet each other and enjoy some drinks and interesting conversation. Start your weekend with us at Lymy! Cash is queen. ♥

In this winter’s round of aperitivos we will be focusing on spaces. Our third aperitivo in the series is with the subcultural center Loukko. Loukko is a space on Castréninkatu 7 in Kallio, with diverse program and possibilities, it’s a gallery, stage, café, hangout space as well as a space for a wide array of workshops and events. Loukko provides a space for (sub)culture with a focus on safer space and accessibility.

We have given them the following questions as suggestions for what we might be interested in thinking about together with them on Friday and beyond: What are the political implications of having a space? How does having a space affect the collective? What are some challenges with having and maintaining a space and how do you deal with them? What made you decide to get a space?

The evening will consist of a very short introduction by us (starting at 6:30), a presentation by our guests (between 20-50 min) and some discussion followed by hanging out in a more informal setting till 9.

You are warmly welcome to the tenth Lymy Aperitivo to hear more from and about Loukko and spend a wonderful evening together!

Episode 4 – Decolonial Efforts and Sámi Politics with Petra Laiti

Sámi activist Petra Laiti visited Lymy in February to talk about indigenous activism in Finland. The fourth episode of our podcast is a live recording of this talk. What is happening within the Sámi and indigenous politics in Finland? What do decolonial efforts look like today? What does an autonomous future for Sámi peoples look like? How can the struggles of today and the future be supported by non-indigenous people? Hear these  questions and many more answered in the presentation and the following Q&A.

Please also enjoy the feel of sitting in the room, when you hear sounds of beers being opened, chairs being moved, or some voices seeming farther away than others.

Recorded on 22.2.2019 at Lymy in Helsinki.
